Blue Bathroom is a group of five accessible, affordable public restrooms, distinguished by colorful, iconic architecture and a sustainable relationship with water and nature. The project removes 60% of the ground-level concrete and raises the building 90 centimeters, freeing the surface below for a large, permeable rain garden. This restores the natural connection between water and soil, while new planted areas and green walls support urban biodiversity.
The façade uses a special interlocking arrangement of gas-fired clay bricks, reducing manufacturing carbon dioxide emissions by up to 45%. Its open structure maximizes natural ventilation in all five restrooms and reduces energy use. The roof and plumbing systems collect, treat and reuse rainwater for toilet flushing, saving up to 60,000 liters per month. Washbasins face the sidewalk, making drinking water accessible to everyone.
